About Ira Davidov
Who I am and Why I'm Running
Parent
I am a proud mother of two daughters who are students in the Halton District School Board. Like every parent, my highest priority for my kids is ensuring my children receive an exceptional education that prepares them to be the confident, resourceful leaders of tomorrow.
Financial Professional
For over 20 years, I have worked as a financial risk manager and governance professional supporting major financial institutions and organizations. My career has been built on evaluating complex systems impacting multi-billion-dollar budgets, analyzing emerging risks, and establishing rigorous governance frameworks. From navigating major financial cycles to implementing long-term strategic resilience, I bring analytical tools and financial oversight needed to steward HDSB’s near-billion-dollar budget efficiently.
Active in Classrooms and Community
Through my volunteer work with Junior Achievement (JA Central Ontario), I went to local classrooms to deliver financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship workshops. Working directly with students, I saw their immense talent, curiosity, and problem-solving abilities. But I also saw how distractions, social pressures, and political agendas in schools are making it harder for both students and teachers to focus on core learning.
Why I Am Stepping Up
I decided to run for HDSB Trustee after participating in parent consultations for the Board’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan. Despite overwhelming feedback from parents across all backgrounds calling for a stronger focus on core academics, our input was largely sidelined. I also observed board decisions being made without clear measurable outcomes. I know that many families are privately subsidizing basic learning needs. There is an increasing number of private shadow education in Oakville which families pay for. This is an indicator that at a time when cost of living is a real issue for families in Oakville, parents who can do so are allocating resources to supporting their children. Equal access to quality education is denied to those families without financial means. Teachers in Halton are passionate about student achievement and well-being and they need a Board that prioritizes allocating resources to the tools and training teachers are asking for.
I believe Oakville families deserve better. We need trustees who care about the next generation, asks tough questions, support staff and insist on data-backed governance.
